Rohit and his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, welcomed a baby boy on Friday. The couple, married since 2015, already have a daughter, Samaira, born in 2018.

“I hope Rohit joins the team soon because they need his leadership,” Ganguly told RevSportz.

He added, “Rohit’s wife gave birth to a baby boy last night, so he can leave for Australia soon. If I were him, I’d play the Perth Test.”

Ganguly emphasized the importance of Rohit’s presence, saying, “The match is a week away, and this is a big series. Rohit is a fantastic captain, and India needs him to start strong.”

If Rohit Sharma misses the Perth Test, star bowler Jasprit Bumrah is likely to lead the team. Earlier this year, at an event, Bumrah joked about his favorite captain, saying, “My favorite captain is me because I’ve led in a few games. There are great captains, but I’ll choose myself as my favorite.”

India has already faced a big blow as Shubman Gill will miss the Perth Test. He fractured his thumb while fielding during a practice session on Saturday.

Shubman Gill’s absence will force changes in India’s batting order, and Test captain Rohit Sharma might also miss the match due to the birth of his second child. With Gill out, KL Rahul, who was left out of the last two Tests against New Zealand, might get a chance to play.

India has won their last two series in Australia but will now face a strong Australian team in the five-match series.
