Australia has announced their 13-player squad for the first Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting on November 22 in Perth. A notable pick is 25-year-old Nathan McSweeney, who is set to make his Test debut and likely open the batting with Usman Khawaja.

The Australian selectors had another surprise by picking England-born wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis. The right-hander is also set to captain Australia in today’s third ODI against Pakistan.
Australia’s chairman of selectors, George Bailey, confirmed that Josh Inglis will not be opening the batting but will play as a specialist batter instead.

Nathan McSweeney, who leads South Australia, earned his spot by playing well for Australia A against India A recently, scoring 39 and an unbeaten 88 in the first match of the series.
George Bailey explained why Nathan was chosen as an opener for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, saying, “Nathan has shown the skills we think are important for Test cricket, with a strong recent record in domestic games. His performances for South Australia and Australia A helped us decide he’s ready for this chance at the Test level.”

The Australian selector added, "Josh has been playing well in the Sheffield Shield, earning his spot in the Test squad. Scott has also performed strongly in past Tests and is a valued part of the team. The squad is well-balanced, giving Andrew and Pat the choices they need for an exciting series."
