Thailand Prime Minister Suspended Why?

Thailand’s Constitutional Court has removed Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and her cabinet from office over her role in a Cambodia border dispute.

The nine judges said Paetongtarn failed to meet ethical standards after a leaked phone call with former Cambodian leader Hun Sen surfaced in June.

In the call, she appeared too submissive while Thailand and Cambodia were close to armed conflict.

Weeks later, fighting broke out at the border for five days. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Thailand’s youngest prime minister, is now the sixth member of the Shinawatra family or their allies to be ousted by the courts or the military in the last 20 years.

With her dismissal, Thailand faces fresh political uncertainty as parliament struggles to select a new prime minister, and her Pheu Thai party risks losing its fragile majority.
